Upload your website to IONOS

IONOS (formerly 1&1) is one of Europe’s largest hosts. Web hosting includes PHP, databases and an SSL certificate.

New to this? Read the basics first – they explain domain, hosting and the structure of your ZIP.

  1. Book a plan

Book a web hosting plan incl. domain at ionos.com.

  2. Log in

    Log in and open “Hosting”.

  3. Create a folder

Open “Webspace” (Webspace Explorer in the browser) and create a folder, e.g. “mywebsite”.

  4. Upload

Upload the contents of the “website” folder into it – via Webspace Explorer or via SFTP with FileZilla (credentials under “Hosting” → “SFTP & SSH”).

  5. Connect the domain

Go to “Domains & SSL”, select your domain → “Adjust usage” / “Destination” → “Webspace” and choose the folder you uploaded to.

  6. Enable SSL

Assign the included SSL certificate to your domain under “Domains & SSL”.

  7. Test

It can take a few minutes until the change is active. Then open your domain.

Tips

  • The most common issue at IONOS is a domain still pointing to a site builder or parking page – check the domain destination.

Hosts occasionally rename menu items. If you can’t find something, use the search in your customer area or contact your provider’s support.
